What? I don’t see anything! Pretending Only Serves The Pretender

I find it interesting how some business leaders don’t notice or are not willing to admit where they need to improve. Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil… everything is just fine. Is it fine where you are? There is a great quote, and I forget who coined it: “Inspect what you expect.â€
We tend to look at our world through rose-colored classes. We expect that everyone and everything is just fine. The fact is: nothing is perfect. There are always people who are stressed, distracted or worse yet, disgruntled about their job. They don’t tell you because you don’t ask.
And that’s just the people! What about your parking lot, bathrooms, and walls of your office? Are they picked up, clean, and free from scuffs and gouges? You see, when you choose to ignore the squeaky door or the old rusty labeled delivery van, then you’re missing the whole point.
Remember, everything is marketing. So when you allow the grungy van to ride around town with your logo on it that was applied twenty years ago, you’re saying “unorganized and disheveled company here!†You are always sending a message. The question you need to ask yourself: Are the messages we’re sending of quality or non-quality? Eliminate the non-quality ones.
Non-quality signals will kill a brand, especially in today’s climate. I’m excited because I have the privilege of speaking to people who are not this way. Even, you, a subscriber to this Wisdom, why else would you sign up for this unless you were looking for nuggets to help you improve? If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t have signed up the in first place.
People who want to grow are the ones who sign up to newsletters, go to speakers, and who read lots of books. So thank you for choosing continual improvement. It’s what drives me everyday!
